Well, he did used to drive for Williams.

Sadly, with the new numbering system we won’t have another car running 0 next year.

I’m am totally blown away by this and was really looking forward to seeing him drive next year. I guess he decided to go out on top.

Now all he has is his millions of dollars, millions of fans, his daughter, and his supermodel wife to bring him happiness. I hope he makes it.

The driver market just got hit by a 10.0 earthquake. Many drivers are locked into contracts already and drivers that may have been available may not be. I’ve read that Alonso’s agent has reached out. I would imagine Lewis has told Toto that Button doesn’t have a ride next year and to see if he can get out of his McLaren obligations.

Here’s the deal. 2017 is a whole new set of regulations. Mercedes has no clue how fast their car is. If they want to win another world championship they need to find the best driver available to give them their best shot. My short list

Alonso
Sainz
Button
Wherlein

I don’t think Ocon is available. For those who aren’t extremely familiar with the series Ocon and Wherlein are Mercedes junior drivers and have been supported by Mercedes. They’re logical candidates, but they don’t give Mercedes their best chance in 2017. If this was the end of the 2015 season headed into 16 where Merc held a huge edge in performance Wherlein would probably already be inked to a deal. However, we’re headed into a season where cars are expected to be 5 seconds a lap quicker. If I was in Vegas I’d put money on Sainz.

@Fourvalleys and I were just talking on FB, and he brought up that he thinks it’s the controversy with Hamilton that pushed him to retire. Which I agree with.

I can’t login to my burner on the front page of any of the sites for some reason. Every time I use a period on my phone it closes the keyboard window and I have to re-open it. So I either punctuate or have a frustrating time writing a reply.

So in your reply to “5 seconds faster on tires alone?” they are also getting more downforce. A lot of it is going to be down to the tires, but they are definitely getting more downforce as well. Driving the cars next year will be physically a LOT more challenging.

Looking forward to the next season. Glad they’re making it more taxing. Honestly, it seemed like many of the drivers were on cruise control after the start for many of the races this year. Tire management does not for an exciting race make...
